Report of 9/10/05-
Help is needed. Operation Re-home a Furry Friend is underway. Help with any
means of transportation to bring these many loving animals to new shelters
and rescue organizations across the country is desperately needed. Any
shelter/organization that can aid in re-homing these once-loved pets can call
or leave a message. Any donations can be made payable to Broken Down Dogs and
sent to 2630 Broadway, Alexandria, LA 71302. This came from their website,
however I am not sure they will be successful in taking any animals out of
LA. The state wants a 30-day holding period, so pet owners have a chance of
finding their pets. |

– This shelter is being supported by the efforts of EARS or United Animal
Nations. Mostly this shelter is for some 800 evacuees that came with their
pets. They house small animals only and the evacuees stay nearby to take care
of their pets housed here. Pets
are not put up for adoption as all pets are there by their owners
decision. See
website for complete information, daily reports, donations and training
available for volunteers wanting to assist in future rescue operations. |

9/13/05 Not sure if they are operating
any shelters. Web site reports they are in the process of gathering
information for hurricane and disaster preparedness and will use this
information to create a database for immediate and future use. They have
links to sites that have emergency evacuation info and where to transport
your horse. Worth a try to look
through their website and see if one of those shelters has information on
caring for or, transporting a rescued horse. |
